5 drug peddlers arrested in Baramulla

Srinagar: Police have arrested five drug-peddlers in Baramulla and separately booked four drug-peddlers under PIT NDPS Act in the north Kashmir district, officials said Monday.

At Saloosa Kreeri, drug-peddler identified — Adil Assadullah, son of Assadullah Mir of Kawchek Kreeri – was arrested after 50 grams of cannabis was recovered from his possession, police said.

At Hamrey Pattan, a drug-peddler identified as Nazir Ahmad Dar, son of Mohammad Maqbool Dar of Naidkhai Sumbal, was arrested and 500 grams of cannabis was recovered from his possession.

Two more drug-peddlers were arrested at a checkpoint near TCP Hyderbeigh and 106 grams of cannabis was recovered from their possession. They have been identified as Mohammad Yaqoob Mir, son of Abdul Aziz Mir of Nilah Palpora, and Liyaqat Gaffar Rather, son of Abdul Gaffar Rather of Pakipora.

At a checkpoint at Goom Ahmadpora Pattan, a drug-peddler identified as Maroof Bashir Dar, son of Bashir Ahmad Dar of Bardrab Beerwah Budgam was arrested and 50 grams of cannabis recovered from his possession.

Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in all these instances and all the arrested drug-peddlers have been shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody.

Police also booked “notorious drug smugglers” — Sageer Ahmad Mir alias Sata, son of Abdul Rasheed Mir of Janwarpora Sopore; Bilal Ahmad Bhat alias Bilal, son of Ghulam Mohammad Bhat of Durhama Wagoora, and Manzoor Ahmad Sada alias Manzoor Auto, son of Mohammad Subhan Sada of Sada Mohalla Pattan under PIT NDPS Act after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authority.

The booked drug peddlers have been detained and subsequently lodged in Central Jail Kot-Balwal Jail Jammu, police informed.
