Says weather permitting Eid prayers will be offered in Eidgah

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board chairperson, Dr Daraksha Andrabi Sunday said that 200 kanals of Waqf land “illegally occupied” in old city’s Eidgah grounds will be used for the public good, once it is retrieved from the trespassers.

The Waqf chairperson also said that congregational Eid-ul-Fitr prayers will also be offered in the Eidgah if the weather remains favorable. She said that preparations in this direction are already underway.

Dr Andrabi said the land measuring 200 kanals has been encroached in Eidgah and that the Waqf Board will retrieve its property from trespassers at the earliest. She said the land will be used for the public good, as soon as it is freed from the land-grabbers.

“People have constructed illegal residential structures, factory outlets on the Waqf land in the Eidgah area. Now a strategy is being devised on how to retrieve it, and how to make people realize that they have encroached upon the Waqf land,” Waqf chairperson told media after chairing a meeting at Waqf head office here, adding that 200 kanals of illegally occupied land will be retrieved from encroachers.

Replying to a query whether or not Eid-ul-Fitr prayers will be offered in Eidgah this year, she said yes the Eid prayers will be offered in Eidgah if weather remains favorable.

“We have started preparations like cleanliness of the ground and if weather allows, Eid-ul-Fitr prayers will be offered in Eidgah this year with the grace of Allah,” she added.
