KU’s NSS units continue with outreach activities under G20-Y20 banner

Srinagar: Continuing with activities under the umbrella of Y20 and G20 celebrations, the National Service Scheme, University of Kashmir, organised more events at the main and north campuses to broaden its outreach initiatives.

Programme Coordinator NSS KU, Dr Mussavir Ahmad said these programmes were held on directions of Vice-Chancellor, Prof Nilofer Khan.

An awareness camp on women’s health and hygiene was organised in Gavmarg area of Shalimar, Srinagar, a socially-backward area, to create awareness among women about the importance of their health and hygiene. 

Dr Suraiya, Medical Officer, University Health Centre, urged the women participants to take special care of their hygiene, especially during menstruation, to stay away from catching infections. Sanitary napkins, masks, and sanitizers were distributed among the participants.

The NSS Unit IV at the main campus also organised a day-long event on women-centric government schemes, with the participation of around 100 volunteers. The sessions were conducted by Dr Shazia Manzoor, Head, the Department of Social Work, and Bilal Ahmad Bhat, who spoke about Women Helpline Service 181.

The NSS Unit II at North Campus conducted a women’s health and hygiene camp to promote good hygiene practices among women, which are critical for their overall well-being. Around 150 girl students from Greenland High School and Hanfia Model High School, along with their female teachers, participated in the event. The session was conducted by Dr Shumail Bashir, Associate Professor, GMC Baramulla, Director, North Campus, Prof Bashir Ahmad Ganai inaugurated the programme and felicitated the invited doctor. 

Programme officers who organised the camps included Dr Heena Basharat, Dr Shazia Malik, and Dr Maleeha Gul.
