PMC approves action plan for Silk Samagra-2, recommends for funding

SRINAGAR: The UT Level Project Monitoring Committee meeting of the Sericulture Development Department, which is the apex committee for approval of projects under Silk Samagra-2, was held today under the Chairmanship of Director General Sericulture, Manzoor Ahmad Quadri.

Among others, the meeting was attended by the Director Central, Sericultural Research and Training Institute, Central Silk Board (CSB), Pampore, Additional Directors of Sericulture Jammu/Kashmir, Assistant Secretary (Tech.) Regional Office, CSB, Ministry of Textiles New Delhi, and senior officers of Sericulture Development Department and Central Silk Board.

The objective of the meeting was to deliberate and approve the action plans of Silk Samagra-2 for the years 2023-24, 2024-25, and 2025-26 for the upliftment of the farming communities associated with sericulture through the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme for the Sericulture sector. Component-wise budgetary allocations of Rs 40.00 crore, kept in the plan, were discussed and reviewed for the development of the industry, and important decisions on the implementation of the project were taken.

It was informed in the meeting that HADP for Sericulture is going to benefit 5157 silkworm rearers across the UT which will improve their source of livelihood through Sericulture.

The committee accorded approval to the plan and recommended it for funding from Central Silk Board, Union Textile Ministry. 

The members from CSB headquarter in Bengaluru attended the meeting through virtual mode.
