Srinagar: A two-day regional workshop on PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan (NMP), being organized by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), will begin on Friday at SKICC in Srinagar. The objective of the workshop is to improve logistics efficiency by enhancing connectivity to economic zones and industrial clusters, as well as to enhance public welfare through improved access to social infrastructure. The workshop will be chaired by Special Secretary, Logistics Division, DPIIT.

The workshop is a part of the five series of regional workshops being organised in five zones: the South Zone, the North Zone, the Western Zone, the Central Zone, and the North-Eastern Zone across the country. Two such regional workshops were successfully completed in Goa and Kochi, with proactive and interactive participation.

The first day of the workshop will feature discussions with infrastructure, economic, and social sector ministries and departments at the center and state levels. A demonstration of the adoption of PM Gati Shakti with a holistic approach and a demonstration of best practices by states and UTs will also feature in the workshop. Deliberations about the Unified Logistics Interface Platform (ULIP) to showcase the different components of logistics and a presentation by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Incomes (CBIC) on possibilities to develop Inland Container Depots (ICDs) and Container Freight Stations (CFS) in Jammu and Kashmir to boost exports across the country are also part of the workshop.

The second day of the workshop will feature sessions on national logistics policy, monitoring of state logistics policies, and drawing an understanding of state logistics policy for creating sustainable cities.

Senior government officials from different central ministries and departments related to infrastructure, the economic and social sectors, and multilateral agencies shall participate in the workshop to share their experiences, best practices, and vision. Senior officers from states and UTs including Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, New Delhi, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, and Punjab will also participate in the workshop.

Regional workshops are being organized across the country to bring more vigor and build synergy with all the stakeholders of the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan. This workshop will ensure that there is enhanced outreach and usage for the planning of PM Gati Shakti NMP, institute a mechanism for Quality Improvement Plan (QIP), identify gaps and develop tools for increased connectivity to economic nodes and clusters, identify common challenges and issues in the adoption and implementation of PM Gati Shakti NMP, and discuss a roadmap for the adoption of PM Gati Shakti for planning at the district level.

States and UTs have an important role to play in the development of economic zones and multimodal connectivity infrastructure. 30 essential data layers, such as land records, economic zones, forests, wildlife, roads, soil types, etc., have been identified and integrated into the dedicated State Master Plan and National Master Plan platforms. All 36 States and UTs have also constituted an Empowered Group of Secretaries (EGoS), a Network Planning Group (NPG), and a Technical Support Unit (TSU) for integrated planning and synchronized project implementation.

With States and UTs now taking progressive steps for the planning and implementation of projects using the PM Gati Shakti NMP platform, these regional workshops across different zones will ensure wider adoption of PM Gati Shakti in project planning. These workshops will bring all stakeholders in the PM Gati Shakti NMP together for extensive deliberations and result in an exchange of information between states and central ministries and departments.
