Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Tuesday expressed concern over the shortage of teaching staff and transport facilities in the Government Degree College for Women in Sopore.

In a joint statement, the party’s North Zone President Javed Dar and In Charge Constituency Sopore Irshad Rasool Kar said the insufficient teaching staff hinders academic activities and leads to more workload among the existing working staff. “Set up in 2005, the subjects of arts, science, computer application, environmental science, and commerce were introduced in the college in a phased manner. It is believed that the higher education department had sanctioned 36 posts of teaching staff including contractual ones, but at present, the college has only 11 permanent teachers and the rest of the posts are vacant. Students studying Political Science, Computer Application, History, Tourism, Home Science, Urdu, Islamic Studies, and Sociology are particularly at the receiving end,” the duo said.
