A case was registered and during investigation, police zeroed in on Muhammad Yousuf Sheikh, son of Abdul Rehman of Raithan Chak Khansahab, and called him for questioning. CCTV footage from the place of the incident was analysed and corroborated with the version of the victim, which confirmed the involvement of the accused, police said.

The accused was arrested and shifted to the police station where he remains in custody.

During further questioning, the suspect confessed his involvement in the crime and on his disclosure two dummy AK-47 rifles, camouflage trousers, camouflage shirt, two sharp-edged knives, one face mask, one gun sling, a rope and a pair of shoes was recovered from his possession.

Pertinently, similar incidents were also reported by the public in Police Station Chadoora and Police Station Charar-i-Sharief in which separate FIRs have been registered.

Police are investigating all such cases in which the accused appears to have adopted the same modus operandi to target the Masjid-going persons during wee hours and snatch their valuable items by threatening them with dummy weapons. Further investigation into the matter is going on.
