Commr Secretary SWD chairs International Women’s Day celebration

JAMMU: Commissioner Secretary Social Welfare Department, Sheetal Nanda, today chaired the celebration of International Women’s Day organized by the Mission Shakti Department of Social Welfare at the Conventional Centre.

During the program, various eminent women who have done excellent work in different spheres of life were felicitated by Mission Shakti.

Speaking on the occasion, Sheetal Nanda said that violence against women has consistently being rising not only in our country but throughout the world which is an alarming situation. To combat this menace from society, sensitization of men, as well as women, is the need of the hour, she added. She emphasized massive awareness regarding gender equality and rights of the women. 

She further stated that Mission Shakti through the District Hub for the empowerment of Women, Women Helpline, and Sakhi Centres (OSC) are constantly working towards empowering and facilitating women in distress.

During the program, various cultural programmes were presented by the participants besides sharing success stories by the women participants.

Secretary of Social Welfare Department, Rachna Sharma, Director General Social Welfare Department, Jammu, Vivek Sharma, Mission Director, Mission Shakti, Harvinder Kour, and other female officers from various line departments, school children, and dignitaries were present on the occasion.
