Rajouri: Two persons were killed while 12 others sustained injuries, two of whom are critical, after a passenger vehicle met with an accident at Samiti Phalni falling under the jurisdiction of Budhal Police Station in Rajouri district.

Officials said that a minibus bearing registration number JK11- 0836 was on its way from Kotranka to Budhal when the driver lost his control over the wheel and met with an accident causing injuries to 14 passengers.

They said that many passengers got stuck under the vehicle and villagers from the area rushed to the spot and removed all the injured and took them to Community Health Center (CHC) Kandi.

Officials said that 14 injured were brought to CHC Kandi, however, one of the injured was declared as brought dead while another succumbed to injuries post arrival.

The deceased have been identified as Shakeel Ahmed (30) son of Mohammad Bashir resident of Kewal Budhal and Badar Hussain (26) son of Khan Mohammad resident of Kandi.

Three injured are still under treatment at Kandi hospital while nine others were referred to GMC Associated Hospital Rajouri for specialized treatment due to their serious injuries, officials said.

The injured have been identified as Mohammad Amin (50), Sadam Hussain (30), Mohammad Hafiz (32), Bego Begum (50), Mohammad Irfan (30), Abdul Rashid (50), Pushpa Devi (18), Billo Begum (60), Zahida Begum (60), Parveen Akhter (40), Sobia Kouser (18) and Shahida Begum (45).

Doctors at GMC Associated Hospital Rajouri said that nine injured were brought in the hospital for treatment while the condition of three among them is critical.

Doctors said that two among the three critical patients have been referred to GMC Jammu, who have been identified as Mohammad Hafiz and Mohammad Irfan.

The other seven injured are presently undergoing treatment at GMC Associated Hospital Rajouri.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has expressed shock and grief over the loss of lives in a tragic road accident.

In a condolence message, the LG said: “I send my heartfelt condolences to the members of the bereaved families and wish those injured a speedy recovery.  I have issued instructions to the district administration to provide all necessary assistance to the affected persons.”

Deputy Commissioner, Rajouri, Vikas Kundal, rushed to GMC Rajouri to check on the patients who were injured in a bus accident, an official spokesman said.

He said that until the latest reports came in, 12 passengers were injured and 2 had died after the bus, which was traveling from Budhal to Koreranka, overturned at Phalni. The injured are receiving treatment at GMC&AH Rajouri.

During his visit, the Deputy Commissioner interacted with the injured at GMC&AH, inquired about their health and instructed the medical team to provide them with the best possible treatment to avoid any complications. He also assured the injured and their families that the District Administration would provide them with all necessary assistance during these difficult times, said the spokesman.
