Principal Secretary discusses acknowledgement of credits earned by candidates in polytechnics

JAMMU: Principal Secretary, Skill Development Department (SDD), Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon, today chaired a meeting to discuss acknowledgment of credits earned by candidates in polytechnics for enrolment in Engineering Degree courses in IUST and BGSBU at the civil secretariat here.

Director SDD, Joint Director Planning SDD, representative of IUST, Secretary JKBOTE, representatives of NITTR and BGSBU, and other concerned officials were present in the meeting while outstation officers participated online.

Secretary, JKBOTE, made a PowerPoint Presentation in the meeting highlighting the software implementation in the registration and examination process according to NEP 2020. He informed that the students of 1st semester have registered themselves at the JKBOTE portal and have obtained an ABC ID as per NEP 2020. He further informed that once the registration process is finalized from the institute side, the BOTE will assign the registration number to the students, and after obtaining a registration number from BOTE the students will have to fill up an examination form on priority.

Secretary BOTE informed that now as per NEP 2020 all the polytechnics will have to ensure that the examinations for different semesters are conducted in the month of March every year.

Principal Secretary sought suggestions from the concerned officers to further streamline the credit earning process so that students get benefitted after they take admitted in credit mode.

Principal Secretary exhorted upon the concerned officers to further simplify the process of credit mode so that students do not face any inconvenience on this account.

Meanwhile, Director SDD informed the meeting that the syllabus for the first two semesters was prepared with the help of expert committee members while the syllabus for the rest of the 4 semesters is being discussed and expected to be completed in the upcoming session. He further informed that the credit system for the syllabus of diploma-to-degree courses is also being discussed with the expert committee.

IUST representative informed that a workshop would be conducted for the polytechnic faculty from March 15 to acquaint them with the NEP 2020.

Principal Secretary directed the officers to shortlist the staff from different engineering groups for participation in the workshop.
