7 drug-peddlers held in Baramulla, Kulgam

Srinagar: Police on Monday said it has arrested seven drug-peddlers in Baramulla and Kulgam and recovered a huge quantity of contraband substances from their possession.

Sharing details, police said three drug-peddlers — Ishfaq Ahmad Mir, son of Ghulam Hassan Mir of Chijhama Rafiabad; Ashiq Hussain Najar, son of Altaf Hussain Najar of Shougpora; and Reyaz Ahmad Sheikh, son of Ghulam Ahmad, of Dardpora Kupwara, at present Rangwar Baramulla, were arrested with 22 grams of brown sugar-like substance in Baramulla.

At a checkpoint established at Buran Railway Crossing Pattan, a vehicle (JK05B-2156) with two persons on board was intercepted and 250 Spasmo-Proxyvon tablets and  23 Codeine Phosphate bottles were recovered from it. Manzoor Ahmad Sada, son of Mohammad Subhan Sada of Pattan, and Ajaz Ahmad Dar, son of Habibulla Dar of Shalteng Srinagar, travelling in the vehicle were arrested.

In Kulgam, a load-carrier (JK03J-1593) was intercepted and 12 kgs of grinded cannabis-like substance and 11 bottles of Cofmaster C were recovered from the vehicle. The driver of the said vehicle — Riyaz Ahmad Malla, son of Mohammad Yaseen Malla of Khanabal Anantnag was arrested and the vehicle seized.

Another drug-peddler identified as Mohammad Shafi Nadaf, son of Abdul Majeed Nadaf of Yaripora was arrested at a checkpoint at Kokergund crossing, with 12 bottles of Cofmart CD.

Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and further investigations have been initiated, police said.
