In central Kashmir’s, Budgam district, 25 vehicles were blacklisted for tampering with SLD besides 2 driving licenses and 3 route permits have been seized and are being processed for suspension and other penalties. Documents of 25 other vehicles were retained by the ARTO for further processing under the provisions of the MV Act. Besides, 20 other vehicles have been blacklisted in the Ganderbal district on Thursday.

In North Kashmir, 9 bikes and two auto-rickshaws were seized by ARTO Bandipora, and 20 vehicles were also blacklisted for violation of traffic rules especially by the youth in the Sumbal area by ARTO Bandipora.

“The drive will continue as per the special orders issued by the Transport Commissioner,” stated the Regional Transport Officer Kashmir, Syed Shahnawaz Bukhari. “As per the order, all RTOs, ARTOs, and enforcement wings shall participate in the drive,” he said adding that he will be personally supervising the drive across Kashmir.

RTO stated that driving without a licence, driving without a helmet, rash driving has commonly been observed among the youth in cities and towns, while driving without a seat belt, without valid insurance and overspeeding is a general menace.

He said that such traffic violations will be seriously looked into by the department and all violators will be booked and not only their licences shall be suspended and cancelled under the provisions of MVA, but also the lists with names and photographs shall be published and made public.

The RTO Kashmir further stated that since the Schools are opening in the valley after winter break, it’s an occasion to remind the school management and parents to strictly follow MVA norms and the Supreme Court guidelines, as an obligation to ensure the safety of schoolchildren.

He said that the MVD shall also conduct a special drive and seize all such school vehicles that are found violating the provisions of law or flouting any instructions and guidelines.
