Srinagar: Police on Thursday said it has arrested nine drug-peddlers across Kashmir and recovered a huge quantity of contraband substances from their possession.
In Baramulla, a police party arrested two drug-peddlers identified as Shahid Ahmad Wani, son of Abdul Gani, and Sameer Ahmad Rather, son of Ghulam Mohammad Rather, both residents of Lalpora Kunzer, and recovered 108 grams of cannabis from their possession, police said.
Two more drug-peddlers identified as Shaib Showkat Mir, son of Showkat Ahmad of Gousia Colony Azadgunj, and Saqib Ibrahim Pir, son of Mohammad Ibrahim resident of Ladoora Rafiabad, were arrested at a checkpoint established at Dewanbagh Baramulla with 215 grams of cannabis, police said.
In Anantnag, a vehicle (JK18A-4445) with three persons on board was intercepted at a checkpoint at Sarnal Bala. Some 29 Codeine Phosphate bottles were recovered from the possession Bilal Ahmed Dar, son of Ghulam Qadir Dar of Chichdipora; Sajad Ahmed Khan, son of Ghulam Nabi Khan of Rambirpora Mattan, and Mehraj-ud-din Lone, son of Ghulam Rasool Lone of Ashajipora, travelling in the said vehicle.
In Kulgam, a notorious drug-peddler Ubaid Ahmad Sofi, son of Mohammad Maqbool Sofi of Sangam Bijbehara, was arrested at a checkpoint established at Lowermunda Qazigund with two kgs of cannabis, and one Mohammad Yaqoob Malik of Arwani Bijbehara was arrested with 3.87 grams of heroin at another checkpoint established at Damidulla Crossing, police informed
All the accused persons have been shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody. Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered and investigations have been initiated, police said.
