Srinagar: Police on Saturday informed that it has arrested eight drug-peddlers across Kashmir and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

Sharing details, a police spokesman said that in Baramulla, police intercepted a vehicle (Alto: JK05J-4593) at Ushkara Crossing and recovered 15 grams of brown sugar-like substance from the possession of two persons travelling in it. Identified as Mohammad Aqib Lone, son of Abdul Gani of Bulgam Baramulla, and Mudasir Ahmad Bhat, son of Mohammad Sultan of Buchoo Pattan, both persons were arrested.

A load carrier (JK01T-8427) was intercepted at the Jheel Bridge Singhpora Pattan, and 5.3 kgs of poppy straw-like substance was recovered from the possession of Waheed Ahmad Bhat, son of Ghulam Mohiuddin, and Owais Bashir Shikari, son of Bashir Ahmad, both residents of Sher Colony Sopore, travelling in it. The accused have been arrested and shifted to police station.

In Sopore, 360 grams of cannabis-like substance was recovered from the possession of Ashiq Ahmad Ganie, son of Ghulam Qadir of Gousia Abad Chinkipora, and Ali Mohammad Lone, son of Mohammad Yousuf Lone of Jalalabad Sopore. They too have been arrested and shifted to the police station.

In Handwara, two persons riding a motorcycle (JK05G-4794) were intercepted and 11 grams of brown sugar like substance, one digital weighing machine and cash of Rs 24000 were recovered from their possession. Both persons — Jameel Ahmad Dar, son of Ghulam Ahmad Dar of Seripora Rafiabad, and Ghulam Qadir Wani, son of Mohammad Ashraf of Mangwalpora – have been arrested.

Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations and further investigation has been initiated, police said.
