Srinagar: Police on Sunday said it has arrested five drug peddlers in Kulgam, Baramulla, and Budgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In Kulgam, police intercepted a suspicious person at a checkpoint at Bogund crossing and recovered 700 grams of a cannabis-like substance from his possession. Identified as Shakir Gulzar Bhat, son of Gulzar Ahmad Bhat of Cenigam, Kulgam, the accused has been arrested and shifted to the police station, p[olice said.
In Baramulla, a police party intercepted a car (JK05E-0145) driven by one Mozim Manzoor, son of Manzoor Ahmad Bhat of Khadniyar Baramulla at a checkpoint established at Gurdwara Chati Padshahi crossing. During searches, 22 grams of brown sugar-like substance was recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to the police station, police said
A drug-peddler identified as Amir Hussain Khan, son of Abdul Aziz resident of Muran Tangwari Chandoosa was arrested with 25 grams of cannabis.
In Budgam, one Abdul Rashid Lone, son of Khazir Mohammad Lone, of Badran was arrested during a raid with 31kgs of poppy straw. His accomplice Shakir Ahmad Lone, son of Abdul Rashid Lone is absconding and efforts are on to arrest him, police said.
One Irfan Ahmad Lone, son of Ghulam Mohammad Lone of Badran was arrested at a checkpoint established at Badran crossing. Police said 272 capsules of SpasmoProxyvon plus, three bottles of Codeine Phosphate, and cash of Rs 35,570 (believed to be proceeds of narcotics crime) was recovered from his possession.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of the law have been registered in respective police stations in all these instances and further investigations have been initiated, police said.
