SRINAGAR: Braving the winter chill, hundreds of devotees from different parts of the valley thronged Bulbul Shah Sahab (R.A) shrine at Bulbul Lanker area of Nawakadal in the old city for the annual Urs of 14th century Sufi saint on Wednesday.

Talking to ‘Kashmir Images’ one of the administrators of the shrine said that the Urs as usual was observed with religious fervor, however, not many devotees could make it to the shrine this year due to the severe winter chill.

Special prayers were held in the Sufi shrine while preachers threw light on the life and teachings of Bulbul Shah Sahab (RA), who is believed to be the first to introduce Islam in Kashmir.

The 14th-century Sufi Saint, according to scholars, was the first from Central Asia to have arrived in Kashmir in 1324 AD.

The caretaker of the shrine delivered a sermon on the occasion, praising the contribution of the great saint in imbibing piety and virtuous character among the people of Kashmir.

They said the Sufi saint enlightened the people of the Valley and showed the path of righteousness by preaching great humanistic ideals.

Elaborate arrangements were put in place by the authorities for the smooth gathering of devotees at the shrine.
