Srinagar: A civilian was injured in a grenade attack in the Eidgah area of Srinagar on Sunday, police said.

The attack comes ahead of Republic Day that falls on January 26. It may be recalled here that in the wake of Republic Day, the security has been enhanced in entire Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in Srinagar city.

Police and other security forces personnel have been thickly deployed in Srinagar and random frisking of pedestrians and checking of vehicles is being carried all over.

Despite these arrangements, terrorists managed to carry out a grenade attack in the Eidgah area of Srinagar.

A police official said that Ajaz Ahmed Deva S/o Abdul Rasheed Deva aged 32 years R/o Sangam, Srinagar, suffered a minor splinter injury after terrorists lobbed a grenade in the Eidgah area.

Deva, he said, was shifted to a hospital where he is out of danger.

The official said an operation has been launched to catch the culprit(s).
