Srinagar: Police have arrested two drug peddlers in Kupwara and recovered contraband substance from their possession, a police spokesman said Wednesday.
He said acting on specific information regarding the smuggling of narcotics in a vehicle (JK09C-1179) with two persons — Amjid Mir, son of Mohammad Aslam Mir, resident of Bijildar forward Jabdi, and Mashkoor Ahmad Malik, son of Ali Yaar, Malik resident of Hajitra — travelling from Teetwal towards Taad, a checkpoint established near Bandi intercepted the said vehicle.
During the search, two kilograms of heroin-like substance concealed in two packets were recovered from the said vehicle. Both the accused persons have been arrested and shifted to the police station where they remain in custody.
A case under relevant sections of law has been registered and further investigation has been initiated, police said.
