2 arrested for thieving in Budgam

Srinagar: Police in Budgam Friday claimed to have solved a theft case by arresting two accused and recovering stolen property from their possession.

On December 18, three shops at Main Market Chadoora near the R&B office (Doobi Complex) belonging to Showkat Ahmed Sonu of Chanapora Srinagar, Mohammad Shaeb Chinga of Natipora Srinagar and Muzamil Ahmed Dar of Ragar Chadoora were broken open by some unknown thieves using a “JCB” (excavator). The thieves had decamped with electronic items, mobile phones accessories, etc from these shops, a police spokesman informed.

He said a case (FIR No. 203/2022) was registered under relevant sections of the law, and during the investigation, a police team rounded up two suspects and subjected them to questioning, during which they admitted their involvement in the crime.

The accused were subsequently arrested and upon their disclosure stolen property including three mobile phones, three power banks, three smartwatches, one MP3 player, one torch, and a stolen JCB machine were recovered from their possession.

The arrested accused persons have been identified as Mehraj Ahmad Sheikh, son of Gulzar Ahmad Sheikh, and Ikhlas Bhat, son of Bashir Ahmad Bhat, both residents of Dashnoo, Hirpora Shopian, a police spokesman said.

He said the investigation also revealed that the JCB machine used for the commission of crime belonged to one Basharat Ahmed Yatoo, son of Haji Noor Mohammad Yatoo of Chadoora. It was stolen by the accused during the intervening night of December 17-18, 2022, the spokesman said.
