J&K witnessing Urban Renaissance from past few years: Dheeraj Gupta

JAMMU: Principal Secretary Housing & Urban Development Department (H&UDD), Dheeraj Gupta today observed that Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing an ‘Urban Renaissance’ for the past few years.

While chairing a meeting to review the preparations for the second phase of My Town My Pride (MTMP-2.0) here at the Civil Secretariat, Dheeraj Gupta reaffirmed that the second edition of MTMP is going to be an occasion of the festival of democracy.

The meeting was attended by Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation, Directors Urban Local Bodies Kashmir/Jammu, Managing Director J&K Housing Board, senior officers of Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Mission Director SBM(U)-2.0/DAY-NULM, Additional Secretary H&UDD, Chief Executive Officer JUDA/UDAK, all CEOs, Eos of ULBs and other concerned.

Besides, Presidents ULBs of Jammu/Kashmir also attended the meeting through video conferencing while Kashmir-based officers participated in the meeting in online mode.

While informing the meeting about the second edition of MTMP programme, he said that prior to actual MTMP, a weeklong programme of Shehri Jan Abhiyan will kick start from November 28 to December 4 in all 78 ULBs including two Municipal Corporation during which all departments will coordinate and make people aware about the government-run schemes, CSS, beneficiary oriented schemes and saturating these schemes, besides improving service delivery.

He exhorted upon the concerned the programme must be taken to a different level this time to connect to the masses and meet their expectations.

While providing broad contours of the MTMP programme, the Principal Secretary enumerated the activities to be taken during the two-day MTMP-2.0 to be started on December 5 and 6, he said that every ULB will be visited by visiting officers for 2 days.

He impressed upon the concerned to work with more zeal and energy to make the programme a grand success and urged upon them to move towards Aspirational Towns.

He also asked the ULBs’ presidents and officers to launch a sustained campaign for MTMP-2.0 and run awareness campaigns by using all media tools and platforms to reach out to people.

He said that MTMP is a public outreach programme to further strengthen grassroots democracy and perform better in the service delivery system in Jammu and Kashmir.

He added that the programme will also help to identify areas where there is a need to do more and make future plans in these ULBs.

He said that during MTMP-II, Deputy Commissioners of all 20 districts will also take lead and supervise both Shehri Jan Abhiyan and MTMP-2.0 and all the concerned will coordinate with them as they are an important part of the administration in the district.

He also informed that a template has been made this time where seven draft city plans have been formulated so that gaps can be filled with judicious use of resources and more funds for these ULBs.

On the occasion, the Principal Secretary sought suggestions from all ULBs’ presidents who reposed their faith in the programme and pledged to make both Shehri Jan Abhiyan and MTMP-II a huge success.
