Horti Deptt organizes hands-on training for officers, field functionaries at Rajbagh

SRINAGAR: The Department of Horticulture Kashmir today organized a day-long training programme for the officers/field functionaries of the Department at the Directorate of Horticulture Rajbagh Srinagar.

The main purpose of the programme was to provide hands-on training to the participants on the management of High-Density Apple orchards and was attended by the newly appointed Horticulture Development Officers and other field functionaries of the Department.

The programme encompassed a series of technical sessions followed by a practical demonstration.

At the outset, Deputy Director Horticulture, Kashmir, Shafiqa Khalid briefed about the importance of such types of training programmes.

In his inaugural address, the Director Horticulture Kashmir, G.R. Mir highlighted the importance of the training and practical demonstrations. He added that conducting such types of training programmes are very important for sharing information with regard to the management of High-Density fruit plantations.

He highlighted the importance of the High-Density Apple plantation and stressed that such a plantation needs to be managed on modern and scientific lines. He further added that the trainees shall act as master trainers of the Department and shall disseminate the technique and knowledge that they are going to learn during these training programmes.

He also stressed on the need for the development of public sector nurseries on the scientific lines so that we become self-sufficient in the production of High-Density Planting material. He further added that in the future more such types of programmes shall be conducted in all the Districts of the Kashmir Division.

Later, a hands-on session of the training was conducted by Mohamad Amin Bhat (Subject Matter Specialist) working in the Technical Section of the Directorate in the High-Density orchard of Advanced Centre for Horticulture Development (ACHD) Rajbagh.
