Tashkent Chowk Baramulla renamed as ‘Bindaas Chowk’ after slain cop

Baramulla: The prominent street square Tashkent Chowk in Baramulla town was renamed as “Bindaas Chowk” on Tuesday.

The street square was named after a cop Mudasir Ahmad alias Bindaas, who was killed in the line of duty in a fierce gunfight in Najibhat village of Kreeri on May 25 this year.

Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh flanked by Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Dr. Sehrish Asgar, ADGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar, and father of the slain cop unveiled a bust of the slain cop after inaugurating the Bindass Chowk.

The chowk was renamed after approval for the same was given by the government of Jammu and Kashmir.

Mohammad Maqsood Sheikh, father of the slain cop, said he was thankful to J&K Police and was proud of his son who sacrificed his life. “He made the nation proud by his supreme sacrifice. My son is not going to return, but we are proud of him,” he said.

Later, DGP inaugurated multiple facilities at District Police Lines Baramulla that included JIC Baramulla, an open air gym, renovated recreation hall, and a dining hall.
