Srinagar: Deputy Mayor Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Parvez Qadri Saturday filed a contempt petition in the court against some “unscrupulous” elements who he alleged have been hatching criminal conspiracies to malign his image.

Talking to the media at his office chambers here, Qadri who was elected as Deputy Mayor of the civic body two years ago alleged that some members of the corporation are conspiring to force him to resign.

He said there are many people, including some of his colleagues and a few officers in the corporation, who do not want their wrongdoings to be exposed, “so they are pressuring me to resign from the post of deputy mayor.”

“Ever since I became deputy mayor, attempts are being made for my forced resignation. There are many people in the corporation who do not want their illegal work to be disrupted, or their wrongdoings exposed. Since I always come with revelations vis-à-vis the unlawful activities going on unabated in the SMC, these unscrupulous elements are hatching conspiracies against me,” Qadri alleged.

He said that he has filed a contempt petition against all those who take the law for granted.

Qadri said that he had filed the petition to restrain some members of the corporation from harassing him “who despite clear-cut directions from the court could not mend their ways”.

“I have full faith in the court of law and security establishment and hope that law will take its course and those involved in scams in the corporation will be dealt with accordingly. Government has already taken serious action against some members for being involved in scams after I brought the issue to the notice of the administrative higher-ups,” he added.

Qadri said that he will continue to fight against corruption and corrupt elements without succumbing to any pressure.
