Woman injured in landmine blast near LoC in Uri

Uri: A 32-year-old woman was critically injured in a landmine explosion in Churanda village of Uri in north Kashmir’s Baramulla on Friday.

The injured woman was identified as  Saleema Begum, wife of Abdul Rasheed Khatana, who lost her left foot in the landmine blast when she accidentally stepped on the landmine while collecting firewood from nearby forests.

A police official said, “As reported by locals the injured woman was collecting firewood from a nearby forest area when she stepped over a landmine accidentally which exploded resulting in serious splinter injuries in her foot and leg.”

The injured lady was immediately shifted to SDH Uri for treatment where she was later shifted to GMC Baramulla for further treatment, later she was shifted to SKIMS Soura for advanced treatment.

Block Medical Officer Uri Dr. Ramzan told Kashmir Images that the lady was shifted to SKIMS Srinagar for advanced treatment.

“The lady is out of danger. When we received her she had a mangled foot. No other injuries were reported. She has been shifted to the Department of Plastic and Microsurgery SKIMS,” he added.
