Srinagar: A seven-day coaching camp, conducted by All India Tennis Association (AITA)  certified coach, kicked off on Saturday at Gindun Sports complex here.

The camp, organised by District Lawn Tennis Association Srinagar in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Lawn Tennis Association, is being conducted by coach Ichiraibe Salie.

After the first session, the coach said he was impressed by the enthusiasm of the players here.

“I was pleased to see that the players are keen to rectify their mistakes and shortcomings. While maximum effort has to be put in by the player, a good coach makes the journey slightly easier,” he added.

The camp is open for tennis enthusiasts of all age groups. However, the organisers are hoping that youngsters will be attracted to the sport.

“Tennis is one of the few sports that can be played by people of all ages. But we are looking for young talent who can shine on the national and international stage. Besides promoting the game, tennis can be a lucrative career for those who are determined to make it,” DLTA Srinagar General Secretary Gurmit Singh said.

Captain Murti Gupta, the General secretary of the JKLTA, said more such events will be organised in the union territory in the coming days.

“We will be having a similar camp in Jammu in the first week of November. A series of events are in the pipeline to take the game of tennis to the grassroots here,” he added.
