‘My Youth My Pride’: Skating tournament for girls & boys held at Kathua

Jammu: In the course of adding new venues to broad-base the reach of the ‘My youth My Pride’ programme, the J&K Sports Council is inching closer to the target of reaching out to athletes in far-flung areas of the union territory.

A skating tournament was conducted in district Kathua for under-12, 14, 16, and 18 categories in which around 100 participants which included both boys and girls actively participated.

The DDC member Sandeep Mangotra and HOD Medicine Dr. Sunil Sharma, Government College Kathua were special guests on the occasion. The guests encouraged the youth to take part in sports and stay away from the evil of drug abuse as well as other forms of social ills.

Ridham, Anayra, Arnav, Swastika, Moksh, Kanan, Gurpreet, and Komal won gold medals in their respective categories.

Meanwhile, the inaugural match of the Diwali Football Cup was played early this morning in Jammu. The first match was played between Spartan FC and Alliance FC. Match ended in a tie with both teams scoring one goal each.

The special guests on the occasion were Narinder Singh, Corporator Ward No.70, Sainik Colony, and DySP Sunil Jasrotia, while Satpal Singh AFC A license coach and manager KK Hakku Stadium Jammu was the chief guest on the occasion.

As many as eighteen football clubs of Jammu province are participating in the Tournament being organized by Sainik Colony Football Club under the aegis of J&K Sports Council.

The twin sports events in district Ramban attracted a large number of spectators to the venue.

Prominent citizens of the district have applauded the efforts of the Sports Council for conducting a series of sports events in the high-altitude region on such a large scale.

Speaking to the desk, Mohammad Rafi and Kewal Krishan Principals GHSS Gool and Ramban said that this is for the first time ever in their lifetime that sports activities on such a large scale are being conducted in the district.

Seconding their opinion, Javeed Ahmad Shan, Sarpanch also said that Ramban has become a live wire of sports activities this year and almost every day one or other sporting event is being held in the district.

Meanwhile, the sports events in the disciplines of football & tug of war concluded in district Doda. Four teams participated in the football tourney, and the final match of the event was won by Reds FC and team Boys-XI clinched the tug-of-war title.

The Principal BHSS Doda, Ruby Naaz, and Joginder were the special invitees for the events. Both the guests appreciated the role of the Sports Council in conducting sports events continuously in the district and also lauded the team of council officials led by Shamsudin Malik for supervising the event. They also appreciated Rameez Malik and Manmeet Kaur coaches for their role in the smooth conduct of the events besides the conduct of regular coaching classes.

In district Kathua, two days of Boxing and Kho-Kho tournaments were conducted which were inaugurated by Raghunandan Singh, Vice Chairman DDC Kathua, and Dharamvir Singh former first-class cricketer.

Around 70 players, both men and women fielded in five and three teams respectively, participated in the Kho-Kho event while more than forty players participated in the boxing tournament. A large number of spectators had also turned to the venue which chiefly comprised family and friends of participants.

Speaking on the occasion, Raghunandan said that as drug abuse is consuming our youth, sport is one of the strongest mediums to counter such vices. Young people of today are the future of the country and if they inculcate good habits that shall go a long way in making our country progressive and prudent.

The Kho-Kho tournament in the men’s category was won by Sallan Club while GDC Kathua Women clinched the women’s title.

Sunita Devi, NIS coach supervised Kho-Kho while Naresh Kumar officiated the Boxing matches.

The rest of the activities in the district for the day were suspended due to the rain.
