‘New avenues added for holding sports events across J&K’

JAMMU: Even as sports activities under the special sports initiative “My Youth My Pride” are being held across the union territory of J&K, new venues are being added to extend the reach of the programme on a daily basis.

A badminton competition being held in sports stadium Poonch for different categories concluded with the doubles team title in the U19 category going into the kitty of Harsh and Krishna, who trounced the duo of Devansh and Suryansh.

Similarly, in the U21 category, Taha and Sayam beat Abhishek and Suryansh while in the girl’s event Zoya and Amara beat Pariksha and Diksha.

Mohammad Qasim DYSSO Poonch was the chief guest and Nitan Sharma Coordinator NYK was the Guest of Honour on the occasion.

A basketball tourney commenced at Subhash Stadium, Udhampur in which 6 teams from the district are participating. The first match was played between Udhampur Warrior and Early Risers which went into the kitty of later with the scoreboard reading 44:30 in their favour.

Meanwhile, a volleyball tournament was organized for men and women at GHSS, Hiranagar. Sunita Sambyal, the Principal of the institution was the chief guest on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest encouraged students to take an active part in the games to stay fit and away from drugs and other anti-social activities. A total of six teams of boys and girls participated in the event and a horde of spectators was also present at the venue.

Likewise, a Taekwondo competition, involving 50 students from different educational institutions of the district was organized in Resonance School, Banihal, Ramban.

Sohaib Masroor, President District unit, Taekwondo Association was the chief guest on the occasion.

District Kisthwar came alive as J&K Sports Council organised events in the disciplines of Football and Chess on sprawling Chowgan Grounds.

In the first football match played between Real Kisthwar FC and Sports Council Football Academy Kishtwar, the former got the better of their opponents by netting four goals to two. Both the teams displayed good skills and played quality football. Azhar, Asif Rasool, and Sohaib Syed scored one goal each for the winners while Showkat Ahmed reached the net twice in a losing cause.

Lalit Sharma, general secretary of the sports body of Kisthwar presided over the function as chief guest.

Asif, Sandeep, Javed Ahmad, and Satpal officiated the match. The Chess Game competition was also conducted at HSS, Dharamshala.

The other day a basketball tournament was also organized at the sports field Shastri Nagar, Jammu. The event was inaugurated by Sandeep Choudhary, SSP Cyber in which six teams each in different age groups are participating.

While speaking on the occasion Sandeep Choudhary appreciated the role of J&K Sports Council in the promotion of sports in the union territory. While interacting with the players, the chief guest outlined the various ‘do’s and don’ts’ for success and called upon the participants to stay focused and committed to pursuing their goals.

The chief guest was flanked by Ranjeet Kalra, Rajeev Sharma, and Nitan Sharma, members of the Sports Council along with Ashok Singh Sports Officer Jammu. Satish Gupta Manager Indoor Sports Complex MA Stadium, Dr Mandeep Singh Asst. Prof Physical Education Jammu University, Anil Sharma, Sushama Jamwal, Vinay Sharma, Shotu Lal Sharma, Davum Gupta besides players, parents, and spectators in large numbers.

Ranjeet Kalra briefed the chief guest about the various sports activities being held across the union territory under the flagship sports program “My Youth My Pride”.
