During the meeting, the Mayor took a detailed review regarding the progress of various projects and transformational initiatives undertaken by the works division.

He lauded the efforts of sanitation workers, SMC officials, especially the Chairman Health and Sanitation and Chief Sanitation Officers SMC to make clean Srinagar possible and congratulated them as Srinagar city gets 1st rank in Swachh Survekshan ranking for North India and overall 12th rank in the country.

The Mayor directed Joint Commissioner (Works) to develop cell 4 at Achen in a stipulated time frame.

He also sought details about the present status of 14 FC High Mast street lights, for which the technical bidding has been already done.

Impressing upon the concerned officials to complete the respective works within a stipulated time frame, the Mayor also enjoined them to speed up the process of tendering works that need to be carried out on priority.

During the meeting, senior officials from SMC updated the Mayor that most of the projects are nearing completion as 70 to 80 percent of work has been already done and the remaining work shall be completed very soon.

While highlighting the importance of hoppers, the Mayor stressed to the officials that the hopper services across Srinagar should be made operational as soon as possible. In the meeting, a need for 100 hoppers for sanitation in the city was also discussed threadbare.

Directing the concerned officials to cover all areas in the city zone-wise with 300 available Hoppers, the Mayor stressed that efforts should be put in place smartly so that the maximum population is covered with this door-to-door service.

He directed the officials to provide every household with both degradable and non-degradable bins for garbage on subsidized rates so that garbage is segregated at source and the revenue for the corporation also increases via user charges.

Chairman Health and Sanitation along with CSO and MSO were directed to close a minimum of 5 to 10 open garbage sites every month which have surfaced on the roadside in the course of time. Further, he directed the officials to make all new vehicles ready for operation as soon as possible.

While taking a holistic review regarding the preparedness for snow clearance operations in forthcoming winters, the Mayor directed the concerned officials to depute snow plows one each in respective administered wards and 8 to hospitals and other SOS services out of a total of 45 snow plows available with a corporation. He further directed the officials to prepare an early foolproof action plan for snow clearance.

He envisaged upon the officials that a detailed roaster for snow clearance should be ready by the first week of November and by mid-November these machines should be deployed to respective wards.

Elaborating further, the Mayor impressed upon the officials that the corporation should be ready for snow clearance by the end of this month. Stating further, He suggested that SMC may seek help from MED for the snow clearance purpose and in case of an eventuality, the tender can be floated for snow clearance plow machines.

During the meeting, the redesign and makeover of the SMC building for which the funds have already been allotted was discussed threadbare.

It was also suggested that the Community halls should be privatized so that their maintenance is enhanced and the revenue generated from these assets be utilized for other developmental projects.
