Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir recorded 18 fresh Covid cases on Tuesday that took the infection tally to 4,79,102, officials said.

Of the new cases, 11 were registered in the Kashmir valley and seven were reported from Jammu division, they said.

In Kashmir division, Srinagar district reported eight cases, Budgam district reported two and Kulgam district one case, while no other district reported any fresh cases today.

Similarly, in Jammu division, Jammu district reported three cases, Samba two, Udhampur and Kishtwar districts reported one case each. No other district reported any fresh cases today.

The death toll stands at 4,785. No Covid-related fatality was reported from the Union Territory, officials said.

So far the viral infection has claimed 4,785 lives in J&K. While there have been 2,433 deaths in Kashmir division, 2,352 persons have died in Jammu division.

Currently there are 145 active Covid cases in J&K — 95 in Kashmir division and 50 in Jammu division — while the number of recoveries have reached 4,74,172, they said. This also includes 17 patients who were discharged from various hospitals, including nine from Kashmir and eight from Jammu division, in the last 24 hours after their recuperation.

Officials also said 4,370 doses of Covid vaccines were administered in the last 24 hours, bringing the cumulative number of doses administered across Jammu and Kashmir till date to 2,45,70,291.

Daily Covid cases in India lowest in 118 days

India logged 3,230 new coronavirus infections, the lowest recorded in 118 days, taking the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 4,45,75,473, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Tuesday.

The active cases declined to 42,358 while the death toll climbed to 5,28,562 with 32 fatalities which includes 22 deaths reconciled by Kerala, the data updated at 8 am stated.

The active cases comprise 0.10 percent of the total infections, the ministry said, adding the national Covid recovery rate increased to 98.72 percent.

A decline of 1,057 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 1.18 percent and the weekly positivity rate at 1.58 percent, according to the ministry.

According to the ministry, 217.82 crore doses of Covid vaccine have been administered in the country so far under the nationwide vaccination drive.

The ten fatalities reported in the last 24 hours include three from West Bengal and two from Maharashtra.
