He said ADGP, Kashmir, Vijay Kumar; District Magistrate, Shopian, Sachin Kumar Vaishya; SSP, Shopian, Tanushree and other senior police and civil administration officers attended the event at police station Zainapora, he said.

An initiative of J&K administration, ‘Thana Diwas’ is being organised to address public issues including basic amenities. During the event, members of civil society, panchayati raj institutions, transporters, fruit growers, members of traders federation, youth, nambardars and chowkidars presented their issues for redressal.

Celebrating Thana Diwas is aimed at redressing the public grievances and providing the police services to the masses at their doorsteps to strengthen police-public bonds at the grassroots, the spokesman said.

A record of all complaints and issues highlighted by the public on Thana Diwas along with its follow up is being maintained at each police station, he said.

The participants raised various issues like recruitment drives, establishment of a Police Public School, drug rehabilitation centre, establishment of ASP office, Munsiff court, horticulture zone at Turkawangam, sports stadium for girls, control on drug menace, better provisions of water, power and various other public issues, the spokesman said.

“The issues and demands raised were patiently heard by the officers who assured the participants that the same would be redressed in a time-bound manner,” he added.
