SHG members of JKRLM roped in as Solid Waste Managers

SRINAGAR: Mission Director Jammu Kashmir Rural Livelihoods Mission (JKRLM), Indu Kanwal Chib today conducted a meeting with the Self Help Group members of UMEED on effective implementation and management of Solid Waste across UT of Jammu and Kashmir.

Chairing the meeting of over 2O trained Self Help Group members of JKRLM (Umeed), Mission Director urged the SHG members to start an awareness on solid waste management by involving Self Help Group members to chalk out the plan for the collection of solid waste and its management through various Self Help Groups.

During the meeting, she directed the SHG members to conduct a proper survey of the type of solid waste in their respective villages and plan accordingly its management by effective usage of techniques and practices learned at the National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (NIRD-PR) Hyderabad.

Adding further the Mission Director urged upon the trained SHG members to identify the most vulnerable section of society and involve them in the activities so that they can use this platform for Livelihood generation.

These women will be engaged as solid waste Managers by the Mission and they will carry out solid waste management duties like daily waste collection, waste segregation and so on Mission Director added.

It is pertinent to mention here that 20 Self Help Group members of Umeed (JKRLM) from both the divisions of UT of J&K were enrolled in 5 Day training program on solid waste management organised by Mission in collaboration with NIRD-PR Hyderabad.
