‘My Youth My Pride’: More athletes join the fray as Jammu hosts more events

JAMMU: A fencing competition in Epee, Foil, and Sabre events for boys and girls was held at Indoor Sports Complex Jammu.

The competitions for Sub Junior, Cadet, Junior, Senior and Mini categories are scheduled to be held late at night today.

More than 100 fencers are taking part in the competition under the supervision of the fencing coaches duo of Rachna Jamwal and

Chotu Lal while Varun Salathia is a technical official of the event and Deepak Singh Patial HP Manager Khelo India Fencing Centre Jammu is also supervising the event.

Rajeev Sharma Member Sports council and Bashir Ahmad Joint Secretary J&K Sports Council presided over the function as special guests.

Meanwhile, continuing with My Youth My Pride activities, a Handball Tournament was organised by J&K Sports Council in Sports Stadium Kathua. The event was inaugurated by Er. Kumar Manjotra,

DDC member. The chief guest encouraged players to work hard in their respective sports disciplines and also encouraged spectators to join sports for fitness to stay away from anti-social activities.

Eight teams drawn from different panchayats participated in the event. Hundreds of spectators were present at the venue to root for their players.

A Cricket match was played in MA Stadium between Birpur Cricket Club and Kandi Cricket club which was won by Birpur Cricket club by 6 runs.

Opting to bat earlier Birpur Cricket Club scored 120 runs in their quota of 20 overs and in reply Kandi Cricket club were bundled out for 115. Rajiv Sharma Member J&K Sports Council interacted with the players before the start of the play and assured them a mega cricket event shall be held at the venue for teams from other districts of Jammu.

Meanwhile, a night cricket match, the final of the Friendship Cup was played between ACB XI and Media XI. The tournament was part of My Youth My Pride special activity to bring activism among the various sections and departments of the union territory of J&K.

Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar presided over the function as chief guest. He was flanked by Secretary Sports Council Nuzhat Gull and Ranjit Kalra, Member Sports Council as well as other officers and officials from other government departments and sports council.
