SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 20: The Director Tourism Kashmir, Fazl ul Haseeb, on Monday felicitated over 50 youth by giving away mementos and certificates for successfully completing a three-month-long swimming course at Water Sports Centre Nigeen.

Scores of children of different age groups along with their parents attended the morning coaching camp regularly.

While appreciating youth for their participation in the camp, the Director said that swimming is the most important sports activity and can help during floods.

He said the department will give full support for said training and hoped society will continue the coaching camp in the future also. He said that those who knew proper swimming can compete in state and national level competitions.

“In the absence of swimming pools, youth venture into rivers and lakes for swimming without any lifesaving equipment which has proven fatal for them,” said the Director adding, “We feel very sad to hear of drowning incidents in many parts of the Valley.”

Dr Sheikh Tariq Vice-President, Swim N Survival Society-K, Joint Secretary Maqsood Ahmad (SNSS-K), Mehraj Ahmad Swimming Coach Tyndle Bisco School, Madam Shaista I/C Nigeen Club were also present at the function.

Riyaz Wani, Yasir Makhdoomi, Mudasir Chasti, Muneeb Shah, Zahid Iqbal, Sheikh Rashid were technical experts who provided training to the students free of cost while other volunteers assisted them in the training.
