S.P College organizes trekking, camping prog for students

GUREZ: The S.P College Srinagar organized a four days trekking/camping programme for students of the college to Gurez and Tulail in district Bandipora.

The event was flagged-off by the Principal of the College, Prof. (Dr) Khurshid Ahmad Khan from the college gate on the 12th of September 2022. The program was organized by the Department of Physical Education.

About 30 students from different courses participated in the programme out of which 12 were girls.

The students were accompanied by Advisor Sports Board (female), Dr. Nadia Shah who was also in-charge female students, Advisor Sports Board (male), Dr. Khurshid Ahmad Parray, in-charge male students, Director Department of Physical Education, Owais Wani, Prof. Zafar Majeed Rather, Prof. Ruheena Tabassum, Prof. Nighat Nabi and Showkat Ahmad. Additionally, among the non-teaching staff, Bilal Ahmad, Ali Mohammad and Showkat Ahmad provided necessary assistance during the programme.

Establishing the base at Dawar for all days of the programme, on the first day, students did a light warm-up trek to the nearby areas. The day concluded with multiple cultural activities and games carried around a campfire.

Similarly, on the second day, the participants did a trek to Dawar Heights Mountain having an altitude of almost 13k feet. Later in the day, students were briefed about the various topographical aspects of Gurez by the local Forest Officer. The day concluded with the pitching of tents on a camping site and finally, students did a campfire and engaged in multiple cultural activities like singing, poetry recitation and other such programmes.

On the third day, students travelled to Tulail where they established the base and then trekked to Angoikot village where they spoke to the local populace about their living conditions vis-à-vis the weather and the geography of the area.

On the fourth day, an early morning visit to the Habba Khatoon Mountain and Habba Khatoun spring was arranged. Post breakfast prepared by the students on their own, they bid adieu to the valley and started for home thus concluding the eventful and exciting in many ways annual camping and trekking programme of the college carrying home memories to cherish and many lessons learnt.
