Action plan for promotion of sports activities discussed at Ganderbal

GANDERBAL: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Shyambir today chaired a meeting of all stakeholders associated with the sports activities to discuss the action plan for promotion of various sports activities in the district.

At the outset, all the stakeholders briefed the DC about the sports activities being organized including outdoor, indoor activities and water sports activities besides availability of manpower and sports equipment.

The DC sought suggestions from all stakeholders regarding proper promotion of sports activities among the youth besides mass participation and identification of talent.

After a brief discussion on the suggestions put forth, the DC stressed upon the stakeholders to work as a team and directed them to chalk out plan regarding the activities and events to be held and asked them to share the same list to District Youth Services and Sports Officer so that a proper plan is devised for mass participation in such sports events.

To ensure proper training to the youth and identification of talent, it was decided that the trainers from J&K Sports Council shall provide necessary training to the Physical Teachers posted in various schools in the district and in this regard the DC directed the concerned to frame a proposal.

For promotion of Indoor games among the youth, the DC directed the Education department and College authorities to identify dedicated spaces within the institutions and make necessary arrangements required for indoor games and availability of sports equipment.

In the meeting it was also decided that sports festivals will be organized at identified locations in the district and DYSSO was directed to draft a plan accordingly.

While interacting with the officers and other stakeholders, the DC said that besides physical and mental development, sports is also a remedy to keep the young generation away from drug abuse. He reiterated that District Administration is focused on the infrastructure development and promotion of sports in the district and urged all stakeholders associated with the sports activities to conduct sports events in all disciplines to promote sports culture among the youth.

The meeting was attended by Additional District Development Commissioner, Mushtaq Ahmad Simnani; Principals of Govt. Physical College of Education Gadoora, Govt. Degree College Kangan, Govt. College for Engineering and Technology Safapora and Govt. Polytechnic College Hatbura; District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Superintendent ITI Ganderbal and Kangan besides president of Voice for Peace and Justice, representatives from Bharat Scouts and Guides Ganderbal, Secretary District SQAY Association and other concerned.
