Talking to the farmers, the Director said that there is huge potential for vegetable cultivation in the area. He asked the farmers to go for diversification in terms of selection of different vegetables, and exotic and high-value vegetables which can fetch more returns to the farmers and result in the socio-economic transformation of the community.

Modern Agriculture is tasked with providing more quality food to a growing population in a sustainable manner while maintaining healthy margins, therefore educated and well-aware agri-entrepreneurs and farmers could play an important role in this movement, said the Director.

Iqbal said that the department has already introduced and implemented a number of initiatives viz-a-viz marketing of farmers’ produce.

Later, the Director reviewed the implementation of PM-KISSAN in the area and asked the concerned officers to ensure that every single farm-operating family is connected with the said scheme and that the benefits reach every farmer well in time.

Earlier, Agriculture Extension Officer Qamarwari, Dr. Fayaz Illahi gave a detailed description of various initiatives by the department in the area. He also briefed the Director about the status of the implementation of different centrally sponsored schemes in the area.

The Director was accompanied by Sub Divisional Agriculture Officer Srinagar and other senior officers of the department during the visit.
