She bear with cub strolls Rajbagh area, mauls one in Lal Mandi

Srinagar: A man was injured in a bear attack at Lal Mandi area of Srinagar on Sunday.

Sources said that the bear attacked one Fayaz Ahmad Bhat, 40, son of late Mohd Shafi Bhat resident of Habba Kadal, working as a security guard in a private school.

The injured, having injuries in right side of face and both arms, has been shifted to SMHS where his condition is stated to be stable, sources said.

CCTV footage of different locations in Jawahar Nagar area of Rajbagh has shown the she bear, with her cub, roaming on streets early Sunday morning.

Police have already issued an advisory to the people to not venture out of their homes in darkness.

“One Wild Bear & a small Cub are roaming in Rajbagh locality of Srinagar. Wildlife officials & Police are on the job. Citizens of this & nearby areas are advised to remain indoors till it is caught. If anyone notices/sees the bear, pls inform at SHO Rajbagh’s number 7006572050,” Srinagar police tweeted.

On late evening, the Srinagar police in yet another tweet said: “The Bear and Cub have still not been located, Wild life & Police teams are on the job looking for it. They both were last spotted around noon time around Lal Mandi area. Advising all citizens to take necessary precautions”.

It may be mentioned here that announcements were made from public address system of local mosques in Jawahar Nagar early Sunday morning asking people to offer Fajr prayers at home and not to venture out as a wild bear and a cub were seen roaming on the roads of the area.
