NC ensuring women’s participation in politics to its fullest: Shameema Firdous
FacebookTwitterWhatsapp

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Saturday said that women’s political participation besides being a human right, is also a key to thriving democracy and that NC has traditionally and frontally worked to end gender bias.

Party’s State Women’s Wing President Shameema Firdous said this while addressing a meeting of the party’s women functionaries in Kokernag. Among others Provincial Women’s Wing President Er. Sabiya Qadri, Provincial VP Syed Tauqeer Ahmed, GN Adigami, DDC members, and the party’s local unit functionaries were also present on the occasion.

Extolling the significant role played by the party’s women’s wing functionaries, delegates, and workers for upholding and rallying around the party flag during the most trying times, Shameema asserted the cornerstone of the development programme of the party is to empower the youth of the state saying that once in power the party has always prioritised implementing gender neutral, youth-focused policies and programs whenever in power.

NC has long ago recognised women’s voices and involved them in decision-making at all levels. There are a lot more women leaders in our party now. We need women’s touch to political decisions to have resultant policies more attuned to the needs of our daughters, mothers, and sisters in urban as well as rural areas,” she said adding, “It is elevating to see educated women join us in rows from different walks of life. I hope that the new joining will help us actualise the progressive vision of Madre Meharban.”

Praising the role of Madre Meharban, Sabiya Qadri said that the efforts of Madre Meharban bore anticipated results in improving the self-confidence, voice, and political standing of women across Jammu and Kashmir. “We have to take the mission envisioned by her to its logical conclusion by ensuring women’s participation in politics to its fullest. Today the ranks of the women’s wing are swelling with educated women from different walks of life from different regions. This has to go on. The doors of NC are open for everyone who wants to contribute his/her bid in nation-building on progressive lines,” she said.
