Special sports initiative “My Youth My Pride” attracting best, brightest talents

SRINAGAR: The Sports Council’s premiere sports initiative ‘My Youth My Pride’ is attracting the best and brightest talents besides ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to develop a strong skill set.

Under the programme, the Kashmir division remained abuzz with cricket activities with several cricket tournaments being played. Cricket matches were played at Sheri-Kashmir Stadium Bandipora, Pattan Cricket Field, and Gani Memorial Stadium Rajouri Kadal in downtown Srinagar.

Moreover, the 4-day Ice Stock Championship underway in Gindun Sports Complex Rajbagh entered its third-day with competitions in the categories of team games for women, men, girls, and boys played today. While Srinagar and Kupwwara districts dominated the day, Bandipora, Baramulla, Pulwama, Poonch, Rajouri, and were also added to their vault.

The event was thrown open by Secretary Sports Council, Nuzhat Gul a few days ago.

Sheikh Riyaz Ahmad, Administrative Officer J&K Sports Council said that more sporting events under the sports initiative My Youth My Pride are in pipeline across the union territory of J&K.

Pertinently during Phase-I of the ‘My Youth My Pride’ more than 8.5 Lakh youth from across the UT participated, while 13.74 Lakh youth shall be part of the program in Phase-II.

In the meantime, two J&K athletes Abhijeet Singh and Ritik Sharma today brought laurels to the union territory with their performance in the National Northzone Athletics Championship currently underway in Karnal, Haryana. Abhijeet clinched gold in the 100-meter event while Ritik bagged a couple of silver in the 5000 meters and a bronze in 1500 meters category.
