SRINAGAR: Sports events under J&K Sports Council’s flagship programme ‘My Youth My Pride’ attracted a huge crowd at Kulgam in South Kashmir.

The day started with twin cricket matches played in Nowgam, Devsar Ground and in the first encounter of the day, Aakran Seniors were pitted against Akhran Juniors. The Juniors lost to the seniors by 9 runs and from the seniors Sameer was the highest scorer for the team with an individual score of 41 runs for the team, hitting some lusty blows while Shakir, Adanan, and Faizan bagged 2 wickets each for the seniors.

Sameer for his brilliant batting performance was adjudged player of the match.

In another match of the day, Achnak Akhran were pitted against Government High School Akhran. Achnak Akhran after winning the toss decided to bat and folded at paltry 46 runs. Irfan was the pick of the bowlers for GHS Kulgam who claimed 3 wickets while conceding only 7 runs.

What apparently seemed like a cakewalk proved to be a herculean task and GHS innings folded at 32 runs with none of the batsmen able to handle the bowling attack of the opponents and were unable to cross the double-figure mark.

Adnan was the pick of the bowlers for Achnak Akhran claiming 4 wickets in the only over he bowled, changing the course of the match. Adnan for his bowling was awarded player of the match.

In another event of the day, Akhran Playfield hosted a couple of hockey matches. In the first match, Kulgam Kings playing against Akhran Stars won the match with 3 goals with opponents able to enter the goal only once.

Milad scored 2 goals and Afaan scored one goal for the winners while Ashfaq’s single shot to the net was the only saving grace for the Akhran Stars.

In the second match of the day played at the same venue, Boys High School Kulgam played against Kulgam Stars, later making mince meat of the opponents. Basit with 4 goals and Adil Shaber with 2 goals did not let opponents settle and denied them many chances to enter the 25 yards. Boys High School Kulgam tried their best to equal the score but settled at the scoreboard reading 6:2 when the final hooter was blown.

Matches in the discipline of Kho-Kho in the district were in progress when the report was filed.

3rd District Srinagar Yogasana competition organized by the District Srinagar Yogasana Association affiliated to J&K Yogasana Association under the aegis of J&K Sports Council was held today in the Multiplex Sports Hall Pologround, Srinagar.

Around 400 participants competed with each other in different age categories held under the special sports initiative My Youth My Pride. The competitions were held in the categories of Traditional, Artistic Singles, Artistic Group and Rhythmic events for both boys and girls.

Superintendent of Police East Srinagar Sahil Sarangal inaugurated the championship earlier in the day and the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir P.K. Pole presided over the function as the chief guest at the conclusion of the event.

The Chief Guest while appreciating the participants also gave away the prizes to the best performers of the event.

A Number of Football matches were also played in renovated Bakshi Stadium Srinagar among many educational institutes of Srinagar with prominent among them being Gandhi Memorial College Srinagar and Burn Hall School, Srinagar.

The participants were drawn from the different institutes of district Srinagar including schools and colleges.

Similar activities under MY Youth MY Pride were in progress in many other districts of the union territory.
