Government failed to cope up with exigencies in wake of COVID-19 crises: Sakina Itoo

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Sunday expressed concern over the losses incurred by people in the parts of Kulgam district due to the cloudburst.

Party’s senior leader Sakina Itoo said the cloudburst and the subsequent inundation has led to panic in some villages in the Tangmarg area of Noorabad here in Kulgam district. She made these comments while addressing a workers’ convention at Arigatnoo, Kulgam.

“The cloudburst took place in the upper reaches resulting in massive flash floods in the Tangmarg area. The cloud burst water gushed into residential houses in at least a couple of villages inundating apple orchards, and schools as well as creating panic among people and incurring heavy losses to crops, cattle, and dwellings,” she said.

The weather vagary, Sakina said, has created a shortage of essentials in the entire belt, making it imperative for the government to rush in with food kits where it’s needed. “So far preliminary reports do not suggest any damages caused by the cloudburst or the inundation. It is expected that the concerned authorities would lose no time in assessing the situation and determining the quantum of losses suffered by the people and immediately rush to take stock of the situation in the affected area.”

Meanwhile, MP Anantnag Hasnain Masoodi has impressed upon the concerned district administration to mobilise its resources to help the people withstand the adversity.
