Srinagar: Two “terrorist associates” of proscribed LeT outfit were arrested in Bandipora and huge cache of arms and ammunition recovered from their possession, police said Thursday.

Sharing details, police spokesman in a statement said that “acting on specific information regarding movement of terrorist associates of proscribed terror outfit LeT” in jurisdiction of Police Station Pethkote, police along with 26 Assam Rifles established a joint checkpoint near Lal Qilla Mode Pethkote.

During checking, the joint party intercepted a Scorpio vehicle (JK05H-0622) and “arrested two terrorists associates of proscribed terror outfit LeT.”

They have been identified as Mohammad Yousuf Wani, resident of Pethkote Bandipora, and Manzoor Ahmed Shah, resident of Bagh Bandipora.

During search, huge cache of arms and ammunition including three pistols along with magazines, 24 9mm rounds, five hand-grenades, fake police identity card, one blanket and a fake identity card of the Health department and other daily use items were recovered from the said vehicle, police said.

During preliminary investigation, it was revealed that the “arrested duo was in close touch with some active terrorists of proscribed terror outfit LeT and the duo was tasked to revive the terror folds by motivating youth to join terrorist ranks and spread terrorism in the district. Besides, they were also tasked to provide logistic support to terrorists of proscribed terror outfit LeT,” police spokesman said.

He said a case has been registered under relevant sections of law and further investigation is in progress.
