J&K logs 259 new COVID cases

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir registered 259 fresh COVID cases on Wednesday, taking the cumulative infection tally in the union territory to 4,76,703 while no fresh death due to the coronavirus was reported, officials said here.

They said 238 cases were reported from Kashmir valley, and 21 from the Jammu division.

Providing district-wise break-up of these cases, officials said that in Kashmir division, Srinagar district reported  74 cases, Baramulla reported 62 cases, Budgam 49 cases, Pulwama reported 21 cases, Anantnag  reported 13 cases,  Bandipora reported nine cases, Kupwara reported six cases, Kulgam reported three cases and Shopian reported one fresh case today.

Similarly in Jammu division, Jammu district reported nine cases, Ramban seven, Udhampur two, Kishtwar, Rajouri and Samba reported one case each.

The death toll due to the virus was 4779 as no fresh death was reported from the union territory, the officials said. So far the disease has claimed 2,432 lives in Kashmir, while 2,347 persons have succumbed to the infection in Jammu division.

Currently there are 2,169 active cases of the disease in the union territory 1,785 in Kashmir and 384 in Jammu division, while the total number of recoveries has reached 4,69,755, the officials said.

They said 303 persons were discharged from various hospitals in the last 24 hours after their recuperation. This includes 278 persons from Kashmir and 25 from Jammu division.

The officials said that so far J&K has recorded 51 confirmed cases of mucormycosis (black fungus).

Active Covid cases in country decline to 96,442

India logged 10,649 new coronavirus infections taking the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 4,43,68,195, while the active cases declined to 96,442, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Wednesday.

The death toll has climbed to 5,27,452 with 36 fatalities which includes four deaths reconciled by Kerala, the data updated at 8 am stated.

The active cases comprise 0.22 percent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.59 percent, the ministry said.

A decline of 64 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 2.62 percent and the weekly positivity rate at 3.32 percent, according to the ministry.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 4,37,44,301, while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.19 percent.

According to the ministry,  210.58 crore doses of Covid vaccine have been administered in the country so far under the nationwide vaccination drive.

The 32 new fatalities include nine from Delhi, seven from Maharashtra, three from Punjab, two each from Haryana, Karnataka, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh and one each from Chandigarh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and West Bengal.
