Residents of Sheeri Narvaw compelled to drink “contaminated” water

Baramulla: Residents of more than a dozen villages of Sheeri Narvaw area are up in arms against Jal-Shaki Public Health Engineering Department for “failing” to provide safe drinking water to them and alleged that they were “compelled” to drink contaminated water.

Residents of Sheeri, Nambalan, Zandafaran, Zogiyar Shaltang Budumulla, Pehliharan Audora, Fathegarh, Ibrahim Colony Fathegarh and Heewan alleged that they are being supplied impure tapwater.

They said that the contaminated tapwater supplied to them has caused gastrointestinal problems and water-borne diseases among the residents. 

People allege despite providing hefty water bills yearly, the Jal Shakti department has failed to provide safe drinking water to residents of Narvaw area. 

The residents appealed to Jal Shakhti Department authorities to look into the matter and take necessary steps so that their genuine problems are solved at the earliest.

Executive Engineer Jalshakti (PHE) Division Baramulla Syed Mohmmad Hidaytullah said that the department is working hard to provide safe drinking water to people.
