 J&K records 315 new COVID-19 cases

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir registered 315 fresh coronavirus cases on Friday, taking the cumulative infection tally to 4,75,424, officials said here.

While 274 cases were reported from Kashmir valley, 41 cases were reported from Jammu division, they said.

Providing district-wise breakup for today’s positive cases, the officials informed that in Kashmir division, Srinagar district reported 103 cases, Baramulla reported 55 cases, Budgam and Kulgam reported 28 cases each, Kupwara reported 17 cases, Pulwama reported 14 cases, Anantnag reported 13 cases, Bandipora and Ganderbal reported seven cases each, and Shopian reported two fresh cases today.

Similarly in Jammu division, Jammu district reported 27 cases, four cases each were reported in Poonch and Ramban district, Doda reported three cases, Kathua two and Rajouri one case.

The death toll due to the virus remained unchanged at 4,779 as no new fatality linked to the pandemic was reported from the Union territory. So far the disease has claimed lives in J&K; while 2,432 persons have died in Kashmir Valley, 2,347 have died in the Jammu division.

Currently there are 3,162 active COVID-19 cases in the Union Territory – 2,679 in Kashmir valley and 483 in Jammu division, while the number of recoveries has reached 4,67,483, they added.  This also includes 480 more COVID-19 patients who were discharged from various hospitals – 410 from Kashmir division and 70 from Jammu division – in the last 24 hours after their recuperation.

India records 15,754 fresh COVID cases; 39 deaths

India saw a single day rise of 15,754 new coronavirus infections taking the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 4,43,14,618, with the active cases increasing to 1,01,830, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Friday.

The death toll climbed to 5,27,253 with 47 fatalities which includes eight deaths reconciled by Kerala, the data updated at 8 am stated.

The active cases comprised 0.23 percent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.58 percent, the health ministry said.

An increase of 487 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 3.47 percent, and weekly at 3.90 percent, according to the health ministry.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 4,36,85,535, while the overall fatality rate has been 1.19 percent.

According to the ministry, a total of 209.27 crore doses of COVID vaccine have been administered in the country so far under the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive.

The 39 new fatalities were composed of eight from Delhi, six from Maharashtra,four from Karnataka, three each from Punjab, Rajastha, and West Bengal, two each from Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, and one each from Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Odisha, Sikkim and Uttarakhand.
