J&K logs 273 Covid cases, 2 more deaths

Srinagar:  Jammu and Kashmir recorded 273 fresh Covid cases on Monday that pushed the cumulative infection tally to 4,74,055, while two more fatalities took the death toll to 4,779, officials said.

Of the new cases, 239 were reported from the Kashmir valley and 34 were reported from Jammu division, they said, adding one each of the two fresh deaths were reported from Kashmir and Jammu divisions.

Providing district-wise breakup for these positive cases, officials informed that in Kashmir division, Baramulla district reported 96 cases, Srinagar reported 60 cases, Budgam 29 cases, Anantnag reported 23 cases, Kupwara reported 16 cases, Pulwama reported nine cases, Bandipora reported five cases, and Kulgam reported one fresh case today.

Similarly in Jammu division, Ramban reported 14 cases, Jammu district reported 11 cases, Udhampur and Rajouri reported three cases each, Kathua reported two cases, and Samba one fresh case today.

Currently there are 4,154 active cases in J&K — 3,461 in Kashmir valley and 693 in Jammu division — while the overall recoveries has reached 4,65,122, officials said. They said this also includes 580 more COVID-19 patients who were discharged from various hospitals — 518 from Kashmir division and 62 from Jammu division – in the last 24 hours after their recuperation.

So far the viral disease has claimed 4779 lives in J&K – 2,432 in Kashmir and 2347 in Jammu division.

India reports 14,917 Covid cases

With 14,917 new coronavirus infections being reported in a day, India’s case tally rose to 4,42,68,381, while the active cases have increased to 1,17,508, according to data updated by the Union Health Ministry on Monday.

The death toll has climbed to 5,27,069 with 32 fatalities, the data updated at 8 am stated. In the latest figure, Kerala has reconciled four earlier fatalities.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 7.52 percent. The weekly positivity rate was recorded at 4.65 percent, according to the ministry.

The active cases account for 0.27 percent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.54 percent, the ministry said.

An increase of 647 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 4,36,23,804, while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.19 percent.

According to the ministry, 208.25 crore doses of Covid vaccines have been administered in the country so far under the nationwide vaccination drive.

The 28 new fatalities included five from Delhi, three each from Karnataka and Maharashtra and two each from Chhattisgarh, Nagaland, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal and one each from Assam, Chandigarh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Odisha and Uttarakhand.
