In Srinagar, the largest mourning procession or Zuljana was taken out from Madin Sahib to Zadibal area in the old city. Small gatherings were also held in some other places of Srinagar including Barji Harwan, Kani Katchi and Mir Behri Dal Lake.

Elaborate security arrangements were put in place in Srinagar to avoid any untoward incident.

Thousands of mourners (Azadars) participated in the Zuljana procession from the Madin Sahib area in the old city that passed through Mohalla Syed Afzal, Alamgari Bazar, and culminated at Zadibal Imam Bargah.

A senior police official told ‘Kashmir Images’ that the situation remained calm in and around Srinagar and the processions were taken out peacefully with religious fervor.

He said the major mourning procession which was carried out from Madin Sahab peacefully culminated at Zadibal area in the old city amid elaborate security arrangements.

The Muharram processions were also taken out at Budgam, Pattan and Delina areas of Baramulla district, Wularhama Pahalgam, Sofi Pora, Halkha, Chaturgund in South Kashmir.

During the day, the people at multiple places had erected stalls where they were seen providing food, water bottles and medicines to the people.

Besides, the Sunni Muslims also organized Ijtimas on the occasion in local Masjids here, during which the religious clerics threw light on the teachings of Imam Husain (AS) and also narrated the events of Karbala.

However, except near Abi Guzar locality, no restrictions were imposed anywhere in Srinagar today.

Meanwhile, paying tribute to Karbala martyrs, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Vijay Kumar, said that all the security related arrangements were already put in place for Ashoora. “I appeal to the people to follow the path of Karbala martyrs,” he said.
