J&K records 452 new Covid cases

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir recorded 452 fresh COVID-19 cases on Monday, raising the cumulative infections tally in the Union territory to 4,70,201, officials said.

While 358 cases were reported from the Kashmir Valley, 94 were reported from the Jammu division, they said.

Providing district-wise break-up of these positive cases, the officials informed that in Kashmir Valley, Srinagar district reported 113 cases, Baramulla reported 143 cases, Pulwama  and Kupwara reported 23 cases each, Kulgam reported 16 cases, Budgam 13 cases, Ganderbal reported 10 cases, Anantnag reported nine cases, Bandipora reported six cases, and Shopian reported two fresh cases today.

Similarly in Jammu division, Jammu district reported 59 cases, Udhampur 11, Kathua, Kishtwar and Samba six cases each, Ramban five, Rajouri three, Doda two, Poonch and Reasi reported one fresh case each. 

The death toll due to the disease stands at 4,776 as no fresh fatality was reported in the past 24 hours, the officials said. So far 2,430 persons have succumbed to the viral infection in Kashmir Valley and 2,346 persons have been lost to the disease in the Jammu division. 

Currently there are 5,045 active cases in the Union territory – 3,902 in Kashmir and 1,143 in Jammu division, while the number of recoveries has reached 4,60,380, they said, adding this also includes 711 persons —  485 in Kashmir and 226 in Jammu division who were discharged from various hospitals in the last 24 hours after their recuperation.

 

Active Covid cases in country rise to 1,35,510

New Delhi, Aug 08 (PTI) With 16,167 new coronavirus infections being reported in a day, India’s total tally of COVID-19 cases rose to 4,41,61,899, while the active cases have increased to 1,35,510, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Monday.

The death toll has climbed to 5,26,730 with 41 deaths including 15 mortalities reconciled by Kerala, the data updated at 8 am stated.

The active cases comprise 0.31 percent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.50 percent, the ministry said.

An increase of 577 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours. 

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 6.14 percent and the weekly positivity rate at 4.64 percent, according to the ministry.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 4,34,99,659, while the case fatality rate was 1.19 percent. 

According to the ministry, 206.56 crore doses of Covid vaccine have been administered in the country so far under the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive. 

The 26 new fatalities include four from Karnataka, three from Gujarat, two each from Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Odisha, Punjab and West Bengal and one each from Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh.
