J&K logs 708 fresh COVID-19 cases

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday reported 708 fresh COVID-19 cases that took the cumulative infection tally to 4,69,749, officials here said.

The death toll remained unchanged at 4,776, they said.

While 643 of the fresh cases were from the Kashmir valley, 65 cases were reported from the Jammu division, the officials said.

Providing district-wise break-up of these positive cases, officials informed that in Kashmir division, Srinagar reported 203 cases, Baramulla reported 248 cases, Budgam 67 cases, Kupwara reported 50 cases, Anantnag reported 41 cases, Kulgam reported 12 cases, Bandipora reported 10 cases, Pulwama reported seven cases, Ganderbal reported four cases and Shopian reported one fresh case today.

Similarly in Jammu division, Jammu district reported 36 cases, Udhampur six, Rajouri and Doda reported five cases each, four cases each were reported in Poonch and Ramban, Samba and Kishtwar reported two cases each, while Reasi reported no fresh case today.

Currently there are 5,304 active COVID-19 cases in the union territory – 4,029 in Kashmir division and 1,275 in Jammu division, they said.

So far, 4,59,669 people have recovered from the viral disease, they said. This also includes 665 COVID-19 patients who were discharged from various hospitals including 518 from Kashmir and 147 from Jammu division, in the last 24 hours after their recuperation. 

So far the viral infection has claimed 4,776 lives in J&K. While 2,430 persons have died in Kashmir division, 2,346 have died in Jammu division.

 

Active Covid cases in country increase to 1,34,933

New Delhi, Aug 07 (PTI) With 18,738 new coronavirus infections being reported in a day, India’s tally of COVID-19 cases has risen to 4,41,45,732 while the active cases have increased to 1,34,933, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Sunday.

The death toll has climbed to 5,26,689 with 40 fatalities which includes eight deaths reconciled by Kerala, the data updated at 8 am stated.

The active cases comprise 0.31 percent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.50 percent, the ministry said.

An increase of 140 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours. 

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 5.02 percent and the weekly positivity rate at 4.63 percent, according to the ministry.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 4,34,84,110, while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.19 percent. 

According to the ministry, 206.21 crore doses of Covid vaccine have been administered in the country so far under the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive. 

The new fatalities include nine from Maharashtra, four each from Chhattisgarh and West Bengal, three from Manipur, two from Madhya Pradesh and one each from Bihar, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Meghalaya, Odisha, Punjab and Tripura.
