J&K logs 727 new Covid cases, 2 more deaths

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir recorded 727 fresh COVID-19 cases on Friday that raised the cumulative infection tally to 4,63,359, while two new fatalities pushed the death toll to 4,768, officials said.

Of the new cases, 521 were reported from the Kashmir valley and 206 were reported from the Jammu division, they said.

Providing district-wise breakup for today’s positive cases, officials informed that Srinagar district reported the highest 246 cases, followed by Jammu with 134 cases. Baramulla reported 94 cases, Kupwara reported 49 cases, Budgam reported 42 cases, Anantnag reported 35 cases, Kulgam reported 21 cases, Kishtwar reported 19 cases, Bandipora reported 13 cases, Samba and Ganderbal reported 12 cases each, Rajouri reported 10 cases, Doda reported nine cases, Pulwama reported eight cases, Udhampur reported seven cases, Poonch reported six cases, Kathua reported five cases, Ramban reported three cases while Shopian and Reasi reported one fresh case each.

Of the two fresh COVID deaths, one each was reported from twin divisions.

Currently there are 4,468 active cases in Jammu and Kashmir, including 2,655 in Kashmir valley and 1,813 in Jammu division, the officials said.

So far, 4,54,123 people have recovered from the disease, they said, adding this also includes 572 patients who were discharged from various hospitals —  346 from Jammu division and 226 from Kashmir – in the last 24 hours after their recuperation.

So far the viral disease has claimed 4,768 lives in the UT, including 2,429 in Kashmir division and 2,339 in Jammu division.

Active Covid cases decline in country

India logged 20,409 new coronavirus infections pushing the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 4,39,79,730, while the active cases declined to 1,43,988, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Friday.

The death toll climbed to 5,26,258 with 32 new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am stated.

The active cases comprise 0.33 percent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.48 percent, the ministry said.

A decrease of 2,335 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 5.12 percent and the weekly positivity rate at 4.82 percent, according to the ministry.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 4,33,09,484, while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.20 percent.

According to the ministry, 203.60 crore doses of Covid vaccine have been administered in the country so far under the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive.

The 32 new fatalities include seven from West Bengal, three each from Karnataka and Maharashtra, two each from Chhattisgarh, Punjab and Uttarakhand and one each from Chandigarh, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.
